Contains some 550 biographical sketches of prominent people of sub-Saharan Africa, mostly political leaders, but also some cultural figures, scientists, and religious personalities, with emphasis on the postcolonial contemporary period (although other periods of history are represented). Entries range from 500 to a few thousand words and include both references and suggestions for additional reading (including young adult works).
